WALL MUST COME DOWN

Every adult who has ever been addicted to substance abuse, whether still active or recovering knows; the addiction is based on compulsive, obsessive, and dependant behaviors that take priority over all human needs. The substance use becomes more important than family, friends, and career, even more important than the most basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter.

In those cases, the fallout of parent-child, broken relationship is extremely high. While the parent is beginning the road back to recovery, the child is left with the memories of their parents being taken away in handcuffs, and their being taken out of the home by CPS or a relative. The months and years of being separated can cause walls to be built up that are not easily penetrated.
